|Alabama Respite Receives Caregiver Support in Walker County|
The Alabama Lifespan Respite Resource Network (Alabama Respite) has received a $5,000.00 grant to fund a Caregiver Support Project for caregivers in Walker County. The Project will reach out to agencies, churches, and organizations to identify caregivers who need a “break”, or respite, from their daily responsibilities of caring for a loved one in the home with a disability or chronic illness. Funding for this project is made possible in part by a grant from the Walker Area Community Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is “to build an endowment that will forever support the charitable needs in our community by funding creative, visionary grants.
The Project will have two main goals. First, limited funding for respite care will be available to eligible caregivers through a voucher to help pay for such services. Then, working with area stakeholders, Alabama Respite will help the community build a caregiver support program called Sharing the Care (STC). The STC program will provide public awareness, social supports and knowledge about caregiving skills.
